عشان أو علشان is a conjunction in Egyptian Arabic in two meanings 1. In order to (to show purpose): The conjunction is translatable "in order to" when followed by subjunctive verb form ex: راح الإستاد عشان يشوف الماتش He went to the stadium in order to watch the match in Modern Standard علشان عشان = لكي - من أجل 2- Because: The conjunction is translatable when not followed by subjunctive verb form. ex: أنا مروح عشان راسي واجعاني I am going home because I have a headache = لأن - لِــ- بسبب in Modern standard بسبب Because of : A conjunction that is in both the modern standard and the Egyptian Arabic أصل = Because in the Egyptian Arabic ex: هو مأكلش، أصلة بطنه واجعاه He haven't eaten because his stomach hearts هي نامت كتير، أصلها تعبانة شوية She slept for a long time, because she is tired a little bit هو مش هيروح الحفلة، أصلة عنده مذاكرة كتير He is not going to the party because he has a lot to study
