Something wrong with the Billboard Haven't been here for a long time. I really miss the time I used to be here everyday. Today, the words 'not for you, only for people to appreciate it.' is writing on a huge billboard in a main street of Beijing. I think this message is totally wrong, am I right? In my opinion, It should be 'not for all, only for people who appreciate it.' Can you give me some help on it ?

Let's talk about the manners when you meet someone for the first time in different country.

Polite words, calls etc.

Like in China, we use 您 and 请 to show our respect.

And we call the stranger we were talking to as 小妹妹,小弟弟,美女,帅哥,大哥,大姐,叔叔,阿姨,爷爷,奶奶 in different ages and gender.

What about in your country?

Is "wow" in English express something bad? And is there a sound in English you use when you are surprised and excited? And also the sound.... when you are upset about something. when you are disgusted with something. when you are shocked by something unexpected. And more, "umm","erm...","emm..","huh..","uh-ha"... etc. Which is right and which is used most of the times? Can you write down the words like that as many as you can think of?

Some words from TED Why someone is always upset and uncontent? Connection is why we were here. Shame and fear is usually comes from I'm not good enough. From her (the speaker's) several years' research, she found out that the group of people, who were always happy and satisfied about their life, were willing to accept their weakness. They believe that what makes me vulnerable makes me beautiful. They embrace vulnerability. We always want to control our vulnerability. But what we don't know is, the way to control vulnerability is stop control vulnerability. It's seems like the place we get our vulnerability, is also the birth place of joy, love and creativity. You are fear and shame of your vulnerability facing with your worthness which you struggle for. You numb it, as well as you numb joy, gratitude and happiness at the same time. It's like a vicious circle, you just can't stop and jump out of it. Then she realized and learnt something that she never thought of. We always make the uncertain certain. That just makes us more afraid and fear. Then, blame, a way for us to discharge pain and discomfort. We perfect the most in our children. But we can't let them believe that they are flawless. The thing you should say to your children is - you know what, you are imperfect, you're wild for struggle. But you are worthy love and belonging. We pretend like what we were doing have no significant impact on other people. We are sorry, we'll fix it. To let ourselves seen. Deeply seen. Vulnerably seen. To love wth our whole heart, even there is no garentee. To practice gratitude lean into joy, in the moment we are terrified to say can I love you this much. I'm just so grateful, because feeling this vulnerable, means I'm still alive. ^^

Truth and present tense. What I have learnt in English class is that truth always use present tense. Is that right? And what is a truth? Such as, I met a girl who is kind yesterday. Shall I change is to was? Even though I believe that she is and will be kind until later. I'll be glad if you can also help to correct my question.

22/6/2013 Ielts WH My first Ielts is over now. My speaking test examiner is a kind british woman. She is so kind even if I couldn't follow her when she spoke so fast. And it's usual that I can't express what I want to say. At that time, I suddenly stopped and started to emm and huh. But nervous seems like never come cross to me. I was thinking, I didn't know how to say what I want to say, and then, I just smiled and looked into her eyes. Even the main language we use is different, she understood my awkward situation. Her eyes filled with gentleness looked into my eyes, and after that, she gave me a big warm and encouraging smile. Well, although my first Ielts won't be the last one. The experience of taking the test and the good impression of Ielts' examiners are totally worth it. The more I study British English and get to UK culture, the more I want to get to know UK.
