I focus on what will work best for my student. Should I speak slowly, quickly, make the subject matter easy or challenging. Importantly, what does the student want from the class. That's what I try to do. I never thought I would become a teacher. Since I was 18 years old I started tutoring and then one after another opportunity came up in which I found myself teaching. I realized that I loved teaching. Since I didn't go through the normal route to get a teaching certificate in college, when I finally did start teaching I put a lot of pressure on myself to be the best teacher I could be and to really reach my students. My classes are private, so I try to customize the class for each student and to identify their needs. It actually takes a few classes to do this, which is difficult because the student usually expects you to figure it out quickly. I try to help each person to reach their language goals of fluency and to give them the skills to be a better language learner so that they aren't dependent upon me or any other teacher or material. I never though than one day I would be able to get a phone interview even less an interview, face to face with five different people, for three hours, in English of course. It wasn’t perfect but I did it. You have contributed to that. You’re a really good teacher!

A great lesson! Although I am fairly new to ASL, Mark is able to use only sign language in a way that is comprehensible and teaches me new vocabulary in context every time. He is very patient and good at clarifying when I start to look confused!

I am really satisfied with the lesson. All my expectations were exceeded and I have received new exercises and a fresh look for my old problems. It has been a really useful hour for my general learning experience and I will happily come back for another lesson!
