Hi, I'm jan Lakuse. I started teaching here because I recognized a gap in Toki Pona learning resources with regards to one-on-one web-conferencing instruction and thought I could fill it. Since starting in 2024, I have taught folks completely new to language learning, seasoned language nerds, and even folks who are language teachers themselves!
I started my Toki Pona journey in 2019 and now find myself heavily involved in the community. I organize a yearly writing contest, facilitate a community Luka Pona class, am a member of the SPPTA, and contribute wherever I can, on top producing my own creative projects.
Here are some things that I do often with my students:
- Decipher texts together, providing clarifications about grammar when needed
- Practicing translating complex concepts together
- Conversational practice with comprehensible input
- Lectures about grammar and community history

My first lesson with jan lakuse! It was so much fun. She really took what she knew about me and adapted the lesson to match my previous knowledge of languages and language learning. I had so much fun and learned a lot! Can't wait to jump back in and keep learning!
