I've been teaching since 2011, have worked in universities and online and lived in 3 continents.
If you like structure and challenge in your learning without the performative drills and rigidity of a "traditional" classroom, my lessons might be for you. The atmosphere is relaxed and while the conversations might seem casual, the purpose is always to guide you to closer to fluency.
Here, we use the target language whether you're a beginner or advanced. We listen to and discuss my stories adapted to your level. You'll hear about intuitive cats, safe spaces and bubbles, eerie seaside villages, spiritual retreats that take an oppressive turn and a dry cleaning service that has you looking perfect for any occasion.
The challenge of language learning is learning to tolerate ambiguity. You won't understand every word. The verb used in Spanish will not always correspond to a literal translation of an English sentence. In my experience, the most successful learners relinquish the compulsive need to understand every single word or question why one "has" (tener/avoir) a number of years in Spanish and French, but "are" an age in English, before they engage with the language. If the goal is to understand and speak the language, this need becomes a hindrance.

French 801 (Autumn 2011) is teacher training, and 2 French 8303 apprenticeships are noted in Autumn 2013 &2014. You can see the titles of the courses on the transcript as well as the grades.

Inne - French Cultural Studies InstituteParticipated in biennial invitation-only 2-month workshop for 25 professors and advanced doctoral students in French studies. Attended meetings & lectures on the theme of "La politique et le politique" as well as pedagogy workshops. Created syllabus on voyeurism and voyage in 18th- and 19th-century literature. Fully sponsored by my home department.

Graduate Teaching AssociateI have been teaching as an instructor in the Department of French and Italian since I began my graduate studies at Ohio State University in 2011. I have been the sole, independent instructor of basic language classes as well as intermediate cultural classes in literature, cinema, and culture. I've trialed a few Spanish teachers and the one I keep going back to is Guyomar, she is honestly one of the best. She is always punctual and prepared for each lesson. Her lessons go through different themes as well as language concepts so I am expanding my vocabulary but she also gives suggestions on different authors, podcasts, and videos to enjoy in your spare time. She picks up the patterns of my mistakes and addresses them. The lessons are immersed in the language I'm learning and she is always encouraging conversations to push my language skills. Her lessons are very detailed, easy to follow, and productive. Moreover, she's very fun to talk to so I look forward to every lesson. I highly recommend her!

Si vous n'ai jamais pris une leçon avec Guyomar, je vous recommande de prendre "French through Storytelling and Comprehensible Input". après avoir fini plusieurs de leçons, vous seriez rendu compte que comment vous améliorer ton français. Hands down!

I've made it to the end of my third package with Guyomar, and I've truly enjoyed working with her all the way. Her creative and meticulously prepared lessons, which are always tailored to her students' levels and personal interests, have helped me progress from a beginning self-study learner, hardly able to function in my new Francophone environment, to a more confident and versatile speaker able to do some professional work in the language. Now I'm in a position to think about getting a French-language certification, which is not a point I've reached with any previous foreign language I've studied.
