Better Call Nanda

I started working with Nanda two months ago as I prepared for a trip to Brazil. I spoke zero Portuguese and really struggled with understanding the accent and flow of speech. I hit the lessons pretty hard to prep for my trip, taking 3-4 classes a week for 6 weeks. While I was worried this would feel too repetitive, like my language-learning experience in high school, the opposite was true. Lessons were fun and engaging, with a wide variety of modalities and learning types, including videos, music, quizzes, speaking activities, and more. I am a pretty natural yapper, so it was great to talk casually between languages as I learned to express my thoughts in Portuguese. Nanda prepared a special lesson plan that would help me communicate as well as possible. Over this time, I have felt my knowledge and confidence with Portuguese grow massively. As I prepare to leave for my trip next week, I am much less anxious and more excited to spend time in Brazil! OBRIGADA, NANDA!

I started learning with Nanda 9 months ago, speaking almost no Portuguese and a bit nervous about online lessons. I can now have conversations with my Brazilian friends on a wide variety of topics, and understand all sorts of Portuguese movies and TV shows. Nanda is excellent at explaining grammar, everyday speech and culture in an easy to understand, relaxed manner that doesn't feel like a classroom. She always comes prepared with engaging activities suited to my level and is endlessly supportive and patient when I make mistakes (often repeatedly) or struggle to express a certain concept. The best part is: the lessons are genuinely fun! They are a good mix of conversation and structure, so it's never too repetitive, plus the conversation gives me heaps of practice to get the most out of what I've learned. Thank you Nanda, I look forward to our next lesson!

Nanda has been such a huge help to me. I feel like I’m finally making progress in my Spanish education! She makes the lessons fun while at the same time keeping me in line so I don’t form bad habits with grammar and pronunciation. I swear the hour lessons fly by! She also stays on me if I don’t schedule for a bit so that I don’t fall out of good habits of consistency which we all know is key. Thank you nanda!

I came into these lessons having studied a little bit of Portuguese many years prior, but I was still very much a beginner. Nanda and I met weekly, and I really felt my skills improved over the 5 months we worked together. We covered both practical topics as well as topics I was interested in, which made studying fun. She provided good feedback and assignments to complete during and outside of class, and I would definitely recommend her to anyone trying to learn Portuguese!
