My name is Irmarie and I'm a Dutch teacher living in Cape Town, South Africa.
I have been teaching Dutch online for 3+ years now. I have a BA in International Studies and a TEFL certificate.
I love different cultures and languages! I speak English, Dutch and Afrikaans fluently, and I'm currently learning Spanish. I've traveled a lot and hope to do so even more in the future!

As a person, I'm very easy-going, flexible and patient. These characteristics reflect in my teaching style as well.
I adapt to your preferences and I like to make you feel welcome and at ease in our classes.
At the same time, I make sure that my classes are well-structured, with enough supporting material (conversation topics, grammar notes, exercises, books and stories to read, etc.).
When I'm not teaching on italki, I do so at my second teaching job.

In my conversation class, we can have a spontaneous conversation about our lives, about every day things or about any topic that comes to mind. Alternatively, we can also choose an interesting topic for each lesson (using podcasts, articles, news, books, etc.) to improve your conversational skills.

The tailored course (Dutch for Afrikaans speakers) also helps with specific challenges between the two languages which makes a huge difference!

I've been taking lessons with Irmarie for more than two years now. She helped me prepare for the NT2 Staatsexamen (Programma II). Thanks to her guidance, I passed all four parts of the exam in April for the first try. She has helped me a lot with her patience, support, useful corrections and kindness. I've had lessons with several other Dutch teachers on the platform and she stands out from the rest. I'm sure I'll continue taking lessons with her for a long time.

Irmarie has such a gentle and easy-going personality and is easy to relate to her. She "custom-made" my lesson to fit my needs from Afrikaans to Dutch. I am really satisfied with my progress in only 6 months (once a week). I can HIGHLY recommend her! Common Saffas, let us support her.

Irmarie is one of the best teachers I have ever met. She is really patient and calm and will never snub you even if you make same mistakes 10 times but will correct you. I am getting confident day by day to test my waters in dutch. I will recommend her any day for learning dutch.
