Alice 雅雅 yǎ yǎ

Another great session. I also feel like we’re opening up to each other more. I let her know about my family, and holiday plans, and American culture and we had a short but fun conversation about it. She continues to push to speak, and also to memorizing past lecture material. I love how she allows me to attempt to speak, and then corrects me after the fact …because I find myself correcting my speech each each time I try. I love her classes and I’m excited to see how far I get with the Chinese language learning with her.

Alice is one of the best teacher I ever had. I have changed language teachers with other language in italki. But I never changed in Mandarin. Fortunately, I found Alice 1st when learning Mandarin. She really care about my Mandarin learning. As requested by me, she corrects my tones. She helps me with my HSK preparation, make sure I can say out the sentences aloud, send me Quizlets to review what we studied & encourages me to speak in Mandarin. I have seen great improvements is my Mandarin especially. I just passed my HSK 3 just 2 months ago.

Lots of interesting content in todays lesson. One of the high points I remember now from when I had lessons with Alice 老师 in Kunming was that she would subtly expand on the textbook words. So I would find my vocabulary expanding quite rapidly. I am happy to say that she has brought that to her online teaching. After today I now know 烫 means to scald but also 烫头发 and烫嘴， perm/ use heat to curl hair and to tutter og words. Alice 老师 is posting some interesting pictures on the community platform that will help expand your vocabulary. I recommend!

Another fun lesson. Usually start our lessons with a little chat about whats happened in the week and then we work our way through grammar lessons. today we got so carried away talking about recent dramas that the entire lesson was filled discussion about various actors recent choices of roles.

After almost 5 years of knowing Alice she is still my favourite teacher. After five years she is still enthusiastic about teaching me, although she has long ago given up on expecting me to do any homework.
