I am married with a teenage son and we live in Hackney in London. I was born in Leeds and spent my formative years in Ilkley in Yorkshire, before studying Business Studies at Newcastle University and then travelling to Paris to teach English in 1982. I like to keep fit; love to play tennis and enjoy cycling and swimming. As well as sport, I enjoy reading and travel and have a great love of the outdoors and countryside, which is just as well, as I have a massive German Shepherd that requires a lot of walking. I always enjoyed English as a subject at school and received good grades. With English and my qualification in Business Studies I was then able get my first teaching job in Paris, teaching predominantly Business English in schools and in companies. Teaching gave me the opportunity to indulge my passion for travel and I spent the next four years teaching in Europe before returning to the UK to consolidate my work experience with a Diploma in TEFL. Since then I have taught mainly in central London Schools and appreciate the opportunity it has given me to really get to know people and their different cultures. Generally I think that for students to learn effectively it's important to create a relaxed, less formal atmosphere in lessons, whilst also ensuring that students are being made aware of the progress they are making.
