Hi, everyone! I'm Yuko. I was born and raised in Tokyo, and currently live in Chicago. I'm patient, understanding, and empathetic towards my students. I started to tutor Japanese to high school students in Chicago and found teaching to be internally rewarding. I decided to enroll at Otemae University, Hyogo Japan (online), and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Japanese Language.
Motivating language students online can be a difficult task since you don't get to meet them in person. In general, I don't believe it's effective to assign numerous grammar lessons. My lesson plan for the beginner to intermediate learners focuses on conversational Japanese, practicing repetition of sentences describing their daily lives in present or past tenses. This would build their vocabulary and grammatical skills in the process. Through my lessons, students have demonstrated to be more fluent and motivated.
Although it’s ideal to speak everything in Japanese, it’s easier for beginner learners to understand the instructions when I speak in English. Over the years I've noticed many students who are at first eager to learn the Japanese language quickly become overwhelmed with standard requirements and testing concepts at school. I've found that many learners get discouraged when they are spoken to in all Japanese. I believe that learning a new language should be fun, which is why I adjust my Japanese/ English ratio so students don't feel overwhelmed, having a better understanding in class.Moje materiały dydaktyczne
