I love composing haiku, Japanese tarditional poems. I write a few haiku every day and share them at haiku meet- ups. I also like traveling, healty diet, well being, movies and bird watching. 学习日语不难。我们一起加油！ I have been teaching Japanese since 1995, and I currently teach academic writing at universities in Osaka. If you want to improve your writing or need help with essays, I can support you. I have studied several languages myself—English, Spanish, Korean, and Chinese— so I know the challenges and joys you face. As of April 2026, I have taught more than 2000 lessons on italki, and each lesson has helped me grow as an online instructor. In my lessons, I try to speak less and let you speak more. I use pictures, gestures, and simple Japanese first, and then explain in English when necessary. I want each lesson to feel comfortable and useful for YOU. Kanya-san is a wonderful teacher! There are so many teachers on Italki, so it can be hard to choose. As a writer and performing artist, I was looking for someone who shared similar interests because I am using Japanese in my artistic practices. When I saw Kanya-san's interests, I hoped it would be a good fit, and it has been. Kanya is personable, professional and fun! During our first lesson, we talked about her teaching style and what I hoped to achieve while studying with her. As an intermediate level Japanese speaker, we spend half the class studying from a textbook and materials focusing on real life conversations, vocabulary, verb conjugations, etc. The other half of the class we work on art related lessons. She is flexible and a good communicator, working alongside me and making suggestions so I can reach my goals. Thank you so much Kanya-san!
