Hello! I'm Yi Kuan.
I am a native Chinese and Cantonese speaker with four year of experience tutoring to all ages and language abilities. I have been trained with TEFL.
I love travel, sport activities, reading and painting! I love learning languages and I am currently studying Japanese. I believe being able to speak to someone in their native language is a very powerful skill and this is what inspired me to want to help people learn language. I love learning about other languages and cultures so I can't wait to meet you!

I like to think my students feel completely comfortable to be themselves and make mistakes in my class! Mistakes are important for improvement, so the more the better! Think of me as your language exchange partner! You will have fun learning language with me without the stress of exams or repetitive grammar exercises. I do recommend that you take a trial lesson. I will always make contact with you via message before our first meeting to allow me to prepare a little for our first class. We will then have a chat so I can see what your general level is and find possible topics of interest so we can adjust the class to fit you.
The class is all about conversation and getting you used to speaking. Even if you don't think you can say that much, don't worry because you will improve each time! After each class students are provided with notes of key vocabulary and resources used during class.

Learned holiday expressions. Teacher Yi Kuan teaches Cantonese while providing cultural insight. She was a huge help with teaching me expressions to use at my sister’s Chinese Tea ceremony, which I was able to share with my family members. She really goes above and beyond to support my learning.

Teacher Yi Kuan goes above and beyond by sending translations and notes after our class. We are currently working on advanced vocabulary pertaining to ordering niche foods and drinks. Through learning Cantonese with teacher Yi Kuan I am learning to recognize characters in traditional Chinese. Thank you!!!

Yikuan is always so much fun to work with. In fewer than five lessons, I have learned to say and understand a lot more than I expected. She is very organized and knows how to take her students' interests and use them to guide the lesson in order to make it engaging. I strongly recommend her for learning Cantonese.
