Learn Korean with Korean Food #2 – Kimchi Jjigae (김치찌개) Have you ever tried Kimchi Jjigae (김치찌개)? Kimchi Jjigae is one of the most popular comfort foods in Korea. It is warm, spicy, and perfect on a cold or rainy day. One of the most interesting things about Kimchi Jjigae is that you can enjoy different flavors depending on the ingredients! Pork (돼지고기) – Rich, savory, and the most traditional choice. Tuna (참치) – Light, delicious, and very popular for a quick home-cooked meal. Spam (스팸) – Salty, rich, and loved by many Koreans. It gives the stew a unique flavor. Although it's the same Kimchi Jjigae, each ingredient creates a different taste, and everyone has their own favorite version! a learner shared his experience of learning Chinese through an immersion program connected to the Confucius Institute. he mentioned being mistakenly placed at a higher language level than appropriate (HSK 4 when he feel his comprehension is around HSK 2 or 3), which causes significant difficulty in keeping up with lessons and conversations. The rapid speech from teachers and classmates contributes to his feeling of being “out of the conversation.” Despite these challenges, he remained motivated, reflecting on their progress, the importance of starting from the beginning, and his pride in his achievements so far. I noted the mixture of cultural materials—Chinese—and seemed to navigate between languages and cultural regions. he asked me what kind of tea that i was drinking, i said it was Yunnan tea - Puerh. We also discussed geographical locations related to China and neighboring countries—mentioned of provinces like Jiangsu, cities like Shanghai, and places near Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal, Hong Kong, and Qingdao. The conversation touched on dialects, regional differences, and cultural perspectives.
