En esta autobiografía la autora relata con una prosa excepcional las diferentes etapas de su vida. Su niñez y adolescencia en las montañas de Idaho con su familia mormona. Los cuales se preparaban para el fin del mundo. Tara no asistió a la escuela y en cambio tuvo una mínima educación en casa. A los 17 años, imaginando un futuro diferente, tocó las puertas de una educación que sin que ella lo imaginara la llevaría a cuestionarse quién en realidad era ella.

こんばんは、Atsushiです。

今日は6月29日。天気は雨。
気温は18℃、肌寒い日が続いています。

さて、今日は日本について、話します。
日本の道路は右側、左側、どちらを走るか知っていますか？

はい、日本は左側通行ですね。
今日は、その話をしていきます。


なぜ日本の道路は左側通行なのか、みなさんは知ってますか？知っているような、知らないような…。ということで、調べてみました。

 まず、世界の75%は右側通行です。
世界の国々で右側通行と左側通行と分かれています。
右側通行の国(国や地域)は、
アメリカ、カナダ、メキシコ、フランス、ドイツ、イタリア、スペイン、中国、韓国、台湾、ベトナム、サウジアラビア、ロシア、ブラジル、ペルーなど

左側通行の国は、
イギリス、香港、オーストラリア、ニュージーランド、インド、ケニア、南アフリカ、日本、タイなど
があるようです。

右側、左側、それぞれの理由です。
右側通行はフランス、左側通行はイギリスという国が影響を及ぼしているようです。馬車を操る人が右側、左側、どちらに座っていたかが、車社会に影響があったようです。

では、日本はどうか。
日本もいろんな説があります。
個人的に好きな説があります。日本には昔、武士がいました。武士は剣を左の腰にさしていました。右側だと鞘があたるから、左側通行にした、という説です。が、これが主説(しゅせつ)ではないようです。

左側が通行が決まったのは、1900年です。国で、そのような法律が決まりました。そして、驚くことには、左側通行にした理由は特にないようです。本当にびっくりする話ですよね。
 その時に決めたことが、そのまま受け継がれていると思うと、少し不思議な感じがします。世界で統一したらいいのに、と思うのは私だけでしょうか。
