Hej och välkomna till andra avsnittet av min podcast. År 2016 åkte jag till Japan och jag bodde i Japan i en hel månad. Det är alldeles för mycket att berätta i ett enda avsnitt så jag kommer ha många avsnitt där jag pratar om olika saker som hände under min japanresa. Och i detta andra avsnitt så kommer jag prata om den första veckan, de första fyra dagarna för då bodde vi på ett hotell i Osaka.

Jhon: Bueno, al aceptar la siguiente entrevista, me das los derechos de autor de tu voz para usos educativos y/o personales. ¿Estás de acuerdo?

Sofía: Sí.

Jhon: Súper. Entonces bueno, acércate un poco para que estemos más cerca en el audio. Así que bueno, cuando pienso en vos, yo relaciono la persona que sos vos con el deporte. Entonces, pensando en diferentes temas, se me ocurrió que ahora en Francia vamos a celebrar los Juegos Olímpicos. La primera pregunta que tengo para ti, y puedes hablar un poquito despacio, no tan rápido porque son personas que probablemente no entienden español, es para practicar. ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando escuchas la palabra o el concepto de los Juegos Olímpicos?

Sofía: Digamos que es como... a ver, el concepto como esperanza porque pues a mi parecer siempre fue como un sueño poder ir al menos a ver, como ver. Y pues también, de pronto en algún momento participar en ellos. Al final, pues en este caso no se pudo, pero siempre ha sido como un sueño y como algo que siempre he tenido como esa esperanza de ver en vivo.

Jhon: Ok, ¿crees tú que eres como una fanática de los Juegos Olímpicos o es algo más casual?

Sofía: No tanto así como una súper fanática porque te mentiría si te dijera que me levanto a las tres de la mañana, porque es en otro lugar del mundo, los horarios son diferentes. O sea, si te dijera que me levanto todos los días a ver las competencias, no. Más que todo me interesa la natación, porque a mí me encanta el deporte, pero específicamente la natación es lo que más me gusta. Entonces, sí me encanta mucho pero con los años ha bajado un poco la emoción, pero igual siempre trato de seguir conectada.

“I’m extremely lucky to have a number of very good and helpful neighbours, but when it comes to an interesting neighbour, that would have to be Joe, who lives in the apartment right opposite mine.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Joe just over a year ago, very soon after I moved into the building, and thanked  my lucky stars the day I met him. It was during one of the Covid lockdowns, and it was impossible to go outside to buy groceries, which was making things quite difficult for me… being a foreigner.

I remember it was about 3 days into the lockdown when Joe knocked on my door and introduced himself to me. The first thing that caught my interest was his excellent use of English, and how he seemed to have a slight Australian accent. To cut a long story short, he told me how he guessed that being a foreigner I might need some help in buying food and other necessities during the lockdown, and had come to offer me some help, which really made my day.

After thanking him for his generous offer, I invited him into my apartment for a chat over a cup of coffee, and we spent the next few hours chatting and getting to know one another. He told me how he had spent a number of years living and travelling abroad, which explained his excellent level of English.

He had so many interesting stories of his travels, but the one that really stood out was his account of the time he travelled across the entire width of Australia, and lived to tell the tale.  As an avid traveller myself, I found all of this so fascinating and incredibly interesting, and we sat for hours swapping stories on our different adventures.
