Is there any exact expression in English? Buying things just because its appearance is great, we say it as “ジャケ買い”. (“ジャケ”ット:jacket and 買い:“Buying”) Even though there are many good taste beer in a shop for cheap, I bought these beers just because the outer looked cute. It was pricey though. I should add my new year’s resolution regarding money soon🤔

This is super interesting -- thank you for sharing! I can't think of an expression with the same meaning in English. A similar expression is "don't judge a book by its cover," which means to not make assumptions about things (or people) based on their external appearance.

No, there is definitely no equivalent. If I did this, I would simply say, "I am buying (買い) this because it looks cool/cute". I also searched for it on Google and as you can see they word it the same way in this quora article: https://www.quora.com/Have-you-ever-bought-something-just-because-it-came-in-a-cool-package
