THE INTERMEDIATE PLATEAU - MOVING ON Language learning is a journey that requires persistence and consistent effort. Many learners reach an intermediate plateau where progress seems to slow down. How can you overcome the intermediate plateau and continue making progress? 1: Set Specific Goals Setting specific goals can help you stay motivated and focused on your language learning. Rather than just aiming to "improve" your language skills, set concrete goals such as being able to hold a conversation on a specific topic, read a book, or pass an exam. These goals will give you a sense of purpose and help you track your progress. 2: Find a Language Partner Finding a language partner can be a great way to practice speaking and listening skills. Look for a language buddy online or try to connect with someone in your community who is a native speaker. Regular practice with a language partner can help you overcome the fear of speaking and boost your confidence. 3: Increase Input to Maintain Interest Input refers to exposure to the language through reading, listening, and watching content in the target language. Variety is vital. Read articles, and listen to podcasts and YouTube videos. This will help you improve your vocabulary, grammar, and overall comprehension skills, and most importantly, try to think in English all the time! 4: Focus on Weak Areas Everyone has strengths and weaknesses in language learning. To overcome the intermediate plateau, it's important to identify your weak areas and focus on them. If you have trouble speaking, find opportunities to practice speaking with a language partner or a tutor. 5: Embrace Mistakes Remember, making mistakes is a natural part of language, remember, even native speakers make mistakes sometimes! Focus on effective communication - not perfection!

The post, especially No.5 is encouraging, and Liz helps me embrace my mistakes in her lessons, which is much appreciated.

Thank you for this post! Im at a plateau I think but I would still consider myself a beginner 😭 it’s in Japanese and I’m between N5 and N4 and I’m worried that if I’m struggling this bad now, how in the world will it be when I’m actually intermediate 😂 lol but thank you for these tips!! I will definitely have to try these out.
