    Humility, humble, and modest are very similar in meaning. Humility is the noun form of the adjective humble, while modesty is the noun form of the adjective modest. Modest can be used to describe someone who doesn’t overestimate their achievements or abilities, but also can mean moderate or small for amounts. For example, “he drank a modest amount of alcohol.” Humble is very similar, meaning having a “modest” or low estimate of your own importance/pride. Perhaps an antonym would be “arrogant.”

    I spend the whole day staying at home since the pandemic happened. I used to hang out with my friends before the outbreak, but it seems impossible right now. As there isn’t much to do at home, I spend all day binge-watching, cyber-surfing, laying on my bed, etc.. Most outside activities are forbidden, and I hope we can get back to our normal lives as soon as possible.

    I am impartial to pineapple pizza—surely it is not authentic Italian pizza, though some people from around the world may like it. It wouldn’t be my first choice, as I would choose pepperoni, buffalo chicken, or something else, but I do eat it sometimes.

    Tips for Teaching Kids!
    Hello everyone!

    I'm Andy, a community tutor from the USA who's been struggling a bit with a wonderful student, of mine, who is 8 years old! To be more specific, teaching him Chinese. We've done quite a few, and will continue to do many more, (including one a day for this month, August) but my current method doesn't really seem to lead him to retain all the vocab. Grammar is another question entirely! (and for someone of his age, should be taught in an intuitive rather than explicit manner)

    We've been working with the "Zhongwen" textbook series for kids, the same one I remember from my childhood, actually. Right now, we are halfway through the first book. We go over vocab, and he seems to remember quite a bit, but really conversation using these words and basic verbs, is a bit of a struggle!

    For example, I try to do very simple exercises like asking him "Do you have a dog?" "Do you have a cat?" "Do you have a ..." to drill in that structure, and also have him ask me some.

    I know I'm probably missing something, like games and more fun, memorable stuff for his young mind. Also, it's hard to motivate him to do homework (which he seldom does). I'm not the biggest fan of homework, but have given him really simple 10 minute exercises to do (which he doesn't really do...) for each class. I don't really know how to motivate him!

    He has made significant progress, though I am worried that it isn't enough for the many hours we have been working together. Does anyone have tips or suggestions? They'd be much appreciated!

    biryani is the most common spelling, with biriyani as a variant. also, the use of fussed is uncommon.

    I would agree with the points made by both Shawn and Paul, and say that "Do you have the 20-pound Pedigree (bag/one)," or "Do you have the 20-pound (bag/one) of Pedigree?" are the most natural answers.     Hey Everyone, What do you think about mutually intelligible languages/dialects?
    Do you speak a language or dialect very similar to another one (e.g. Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, or Spanish, Italian, or a Chinese dialect/language?

    I'm really interested in your experiences with speakers of different but similar languages/dialects.

    Even weirder, there can sometimes be asymmetric mutual intelligibility; someone can understand you while you can't understand them or vice versa!

    Any thoughts?

    I am very sorry to those who have been deceived or betrayed by a significant other. [ I think anguish is a bit awkward here, like "that causes me anguish" would sound more natural.] Nothing can be more painful than that feeling. Nothing can heal the deep pain in their hearts, nor can time be useful to extinguish the fire inside [I'm not sure I understand this part correctly?] I am also sorry for those who are still suffering from the faults [or mishaps, errors, etc] of their parents, for those who discovered that their beloved parents were murderers, drug traffickers, or robbers. I deeply sympathize with all of them [You could replace sympathy with empathy if you personally have been in their situation. Overall great entry!]

    En ce moment je vous dit quelques conseils de comment apprendre deux langues en même temps.

    1. Premièrement, décidez quelles langues voulez vous apprendre. Assurez- vous de choisir deux languages differentes. Si vous choisissez 2 langues de la même famille comme par exemple l'éspagnol et l'italian, vous embrouillerez peut-être les deux langues..

    2. Pourquoi vous voulez apprendre ces langues? C'est important de écrire votre objectif linguistique.

    3. Trouver la methode que vous voulez utiliser. Il n'y pas de methode parfaite pour tout le monde. La methode la plus efficace est différente pour chaque personne. C'est hyper important de combiner de different
    compétences comme: l'ecriture, l'óral et la lecture. comme ça vous améliorez rápidement.

    4. Vous devriez étudier des langues tous les jours. La consistance est importante.
