How to translate a diminutive without losing its cute, affectionate tone when there’s no exact equivalent word in English or another language? Agora, corte a cenoura, a abobrinha e a banana da terra em rodelas. Não muito finas e não muito grossas. Depois, corte o brócolis em pequenas arvorezinhas.

If a student studies, what is the proper verb to describe what a president does? "Presiding" doesn’t seem to capture the role of a president fully. Let the coach coach, the player play, and the spectator spectate.

Hello, I was wondering if the phrase “second guess someone else” could mean “doubt the person’s decision”. I did some research for it, then just found out the meaning of “guess what the one will do”. Is it not right to use the phrase that way? I appreciate your help.

Does anyone know an effective way to do a real language exchange? My experience so far has been with people who mostly want free English lessons, but when it’s my turn to practice, they either disappear or give one-word answers. I’d love to find a serious exchange partner for French or Spanish (A1–A2 level), offering English in return. Russian is also on my list, though I’ve only just started learning it.
