Then we`ll have a discussion about the rationale behind taxing luxury goods and its implications on consumer behavior and government revenue. I`ll present examples of luxury goods and discuss the distinguishing features that classify a product as a luxury item. Together we`ll explore the reasons why luxury goods might be targeted for higher taxation compared to essential goods. Finally we`ll discuss how luxury taxes can influence purchasing decisions, market dynamics, and trends in luxury consumption and compare different countries and their taxes on luxury goods.

Through this lesson, students will deepen their understanding of luxury taxes, critically analyze the effects of taxing luxury goods, and engage in discussions on the role of taxation in regulating consumption patterns and promoting economic equity. For homework: to research a specific luxury tax policy implemented in a country of their choice and write a short analysis of its impact on society, economy, and consumer behavior.
