"1984" introduced the words "Big Brother", "Doublethink", "Newspeak" into the English language. Written in the 1940's the themes of this book are still present today - almost 80 years later. Banned in multiple countries for being pro-communist, anti-communist, and containing "indecent" scenes, "1984" continues to generate discussion and leave the reader with questions that may never be answered. Bring your book, favorite beverage, questions and comments to this session and join us in analyzing and discussing George Orwell's terrifying vision of the future. This is a safe, judgment-free zone that welcomes ALL. Closed captions will be turned on - you may also turn them off. If all students agree the class will be recorded - audio, transcript (from the closed captions), and chat box files will be sent to each student after the class has ended.
