How do you improve your IELTS band score. In this podcast I’m going to give you 1 simple strategy to help you get the band score you need.

The technique I’m going to teach you is paraphrase. Yes, paraphrasing is very important, and it’s something that IELTS examiners listen out for. In the IELTS band descriptors you will see that you can not get a band score 6 or 7 unless you can paraphrase effectively.

Let me give you an example.

Let’s say in part 1 the examiner asks you about your hometown and asks you this question: Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?

You should answer the question by choosing a synonym for foreigners, for example, tourists.

You could also choose a synonym  for destination, for example visit.

So, when the examiner asks you “Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?” you could answer like this:

Yes, many tourists visit my hometown. 

So, you’ve answered the question using paraphrase.

Instead of foreigners you said tourists and instead of destination, you said visit.

Let me teach you again. If the examiner asks you “Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?” you could answer:

Yes, many tourists visit my hometown.

今天想和大家聊一聊【周末的打算】。
上个周末中国的公司都要上班，因为中秋节和国庆节放了8天假。一般如果有一周左右的长假，那么前面或者后面的周末需要上班，这个做法叫做“调休”。所以实际上8天的长假有4天是周末，只有4天是真正的假期。我经常跟学生说：“好羡慕你们啊，有那么多假期。中国的假期估计是全世界最少的。”
我的朋友们上个星期六开始上班，要上到这周五，连续上7天班。网友开玩笑说：“如果你觉得放假8天时间过得很快，那么很快你就知道7天有多慢了。”我自己是自由职业，所以我的工作时间跟大家不太一样。我是有时候工作有时候休息，没有很长的假期，所以也没有假期综合症。记得以前在公司上班的时候，长假过后回去上班的第一天，经常很不适应，一直跟同事开玩笑说：“我已经忘了我是做什么工作的了。”我更喜欢现在的工作方式，没有假期综合症的烦恼。
这个周末我打算和朋友一起去广州的老城区逛一逛，打卡一些美食店。广州是一座美食之都，有句俗语叫“食在广州”，说明广州美食很多，广州人也很懂美食。在广州你可以吃到全国各地，甚至是全世界各地的美食。我在云南生活半年后回到广州，最想念的是早茶。和朋友们一起喝茶、吃点心，从早上吃到下午，谈天说地，真的很开心。
