Agglutination — How Malayalam Builds a Word Like a Train | Learn Malayalam #60
說明
Welcome to the engine room. This class removes one specific fear, and it is the fear that stops most learners cold.
You look at a long Malayalam word — twenty letters, no spaces, apparently unpronounceable — and you panic. You assume you have to memorise it as a single unit, and that there must be tens of thousands of these monsters waiting for you.
That is not what is happening. Not even close.
A long Malayalam word is not one thing. It is a TRAIN. A small root at the front, then a series of carriages coupled on behind it, one at a time, each carriage carrying exactly one piece of meaning.
And you do not memorise trains. You learn the carriages, and then you couple them yourself, in the order the language requires.
This is agglutination, and it is the single most important structural fact about Malayalam. English hides its grammar in separate little words scattered around the sentence. Malayalam stacks its grammar onto the end of the word, in a fixed order, with nothing lost and nothing ambiguous.
Once you see it, long words stop being frightening and start being readable — because you can take them apart.
In this class:
• Root plus carriages — how a Malayalam word is actually assembled
• The fixed order the carriages couple in, and why it never varies
• How to break an unfamiliar twenty-letter word into parts you already know
• Why this makes Malayalam more regular than English, not less
This opens Level Nine, The Machine Room.
