L’anno prossimo Marco andrà a studiare inglese in Inghilterra per sei mesi. Ancora non parla bene la lingua, ma è sicuro che quando inizierà il corso di lingua a Londra, migliorerà moltissimo. Partirà il prossimo settembre, prenderà un aereo dall’aeroporto di Venezia e atterrerà all’aeroporto di Londra dopo un paio d’ore.



Quando sarà lì, prenderà la metropolitana per raggiungere il dormitorio della scuola. Ha già controllato come funzionano i corsi: ogni mattina frequenterà la lezione di inglese dal lunedì al venerdì dalle 9 a mezzogiorno. In classe ci saranno dieci studenti, tutti stranieri che andranno in Inghilterra per imparare la lingua. Gli insegnanti saranno madrelingua. Marco e i suoi compagni parleranno in inglese, ascolteranno degli audio, faranno tanti esercizi e scriveranno delle composizioni. Alla fine del semestre dovranno superare un esame. Dopo Marco potrà ricevere un certificato. Forse resterà nel Regno Unito due mesi in più, viaggerà per il Paese e praticherà la lingua.

Quando tornerà a Venezia, a casa sua, parlerà con tutti i clienti stranieri e continuerà a studiare inglese con i corsi online.

Perché Marco studierà l’inglese? Ha un sogno nel cassetto: fare il giro del mondo. Quando il suo inglese sarà perfetto, metterà in pausa il suo negozio, preparerà la valigia e partirà. Visiterà quanti più Paesi possibile in un anno. Parlare inglese lo aiuterà a comunicare in molti paesi stranieri: chiederà informazioni ai passanti quando si perderà, farà amicizia con altri turisti, si divertirà tantissimo.

Marco è molto emozionato e non vede l’ora di partire!

Reducing the time we spend on our smartphones outside of work could help improve satisfaction and motivation in the workplace, according to a new study.

Spending less time on our phones doing non-work tasks like scrolling social media or watching videos could also have an impact on our mental health, researchers said.

A research team from Germany wanted to find out about easy ways companies could improve the motivation and well-being of their employees.

Almost 280 volunteers were put into four groups.

For one week, people in the first group reduced their daily smartphone use by one hour.

People in the second group didn't change their smartphone use, but did 30 minutes more exercise per day.

Participants in the third group did both of these things. And the fourth group didn't make any changes at all.

The volunteers took surveys about their work satisfaction, motivation and mental health before starting the experiment. They took the surveys again after the experiment ended, and then again two weeks later.

The researchers found that participants in both of the groups that reduced their smartphone use saw significant improvements in their mental health and workplace satisfaction. People in these groups also felt that their work-life balance was better.

And those in the first three groups — including the exercise-only group — all said they felt a greater sense of control over their lives.

The researchers said companies could think about encouraging employees to make small changes like these to their daily lives. When employees are happier at work, they're likely to be more productive, they added.

And the good thing for companies is that there's no cost to encouraging changes like these!

For matters necessitating decorum, a formal approach may entail phrases like "I wholeheartedly agree" or "indeed," while "I concur" and "affirmative" maintain a level of professionalism. Politeness sweetens the agreement in expressions such as "I'd be happy to" and "that sounds wonderful," demonstrating eagerness to comply. A touch of wit adds a layer of humor to the affirmation, as seen in expressions like "in a New York minute" or "is the Pope Catholic?" In more refined circles, the upper class might communicate their agreement with endearing phrases like "absolutely, my dear" or "most assuredly," maintaining a level of warmth. For royalty, an affirmation is conveyed with grace and respect, as in "by all means, Your Majesty" or "it would be my honor, Your Highness," underscoring the formal nature of the response. Ultimately, the choice of expression hinges on the context and the level of decorum required for the situation at hand.
