Hello I'm Akari, I'm a online Japanese teacher and tour guide in Kyoto.
I've been teaching Japanese since 2013, and thanks to this job I met amazing people along the way.
Today I interviewed Akira, who took my lesson around 2020, then came to Japan and spend three month from autumn 2024 to winter 2025. 
He's learning Japanese journey is not only language learning, but it's related to his dad's family history and his future wife.

Halo semua! Bagaimana akhir minggu kalian? Baik? 
Akhir-akhir ini pekerjaan saya sangat banyak dan harus selesai sebelum tenggat waktu (締切・deadline). Jadi hampir setiap malam saya begadang. “Begadang” di Bahasa Jepang artinya 遅くまで起きている, di Bahasa Inggris artinya “stay up late”. Ya, saya tahu ini tidak baik untuk kesehatan. Dan karena sering begadang, setiap hari saya minum kopi lebih dari 4 cangkir, juga menjadi lapar di malam hari. Aduh! Saya harus mulai diet lagi! Kalian juga jangan sering begadang ya, selamat beraktifitas! Sampai jumpa di podcast berikutnya!

Have you ever heard the expression you can’t teach an old dog
new tricks? Today I want to talk with you about this expression and ask whether this is true or not. Well, the answer is kind of confusing because it is, and it isn’t true at the same time. So what do I mean by that? When somebody says, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” essentially, they are saying if you are older, you can’t learn new things. Now, I have a real problem with this because I have seen this type of mindset disproved so many times, including my first college professor who did not go to college until she was in her 60’s she ended up getting her associate degree, her bachelors and then masters degree and in her seventies was my professor for my very first college class that I ever took. I don’t believe the expression, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
