「このお手々にちょうどいい手袋ください」
すると帽子屋さんは、おやおやと思いました。
狐の手です。狐の手が手袋をくれと言うのです。
これはきっと木の葉で買いに来たんだな
と思いました。そこで、
「先にお金をください」
と言いました。
子狐は すなおに、握って来た白銅貨を
二つ帽子屋さんに渡しました。
帽子屋さんはそれを人差指の さきにのっけて、
カチ合せて見ると、よい音がしましたので、
これは木の葉じゃない、ほんとのお金だ
と思いましたので、棚から子供用の毛糸の手袋を
とり出してきて子狐の手に持たせてやりました。
子狐は、お礼を言って
また、もと来た道を帰りはじめました。
