Nous sommes à l’École américaine à Paris. Les élèves sont américains, mais le professeur est français. C’est le premier jour de l’école et la première leçon de français.
Le professeur fait l’appel : les élèves doivent répondre « Présent, monsieur » ou « Absent, monsieur ». Il insiste pour qu’on parle français et non anglais.
