きのうは、
東京都(とうきょう)、
神奈川県(かながわ)、
大阪府(おおさかふ)の人口の話をしましたね。

ところで、
この東京都の「都」
神奈川県の「県」
大阪府の「府」

と、けん、ふ、とちがうことばですね。

英語では、
Tokyo,
Kanagawa Prefecture,
Osaka prefectureと言います。

でも、日本ではprefectureは県(けん)や(府)といいます。

たとえば、
Hiroshima prefectureは、広島県(ひろしまけん)
Fukuoka prefectureは福岡県(ふくおかけん)
といいます。

京都と大阪だけ、とくべつです。

"県"ではなく"府"といいます。

京都府(きょうとふ)、大阪府(おおさかふ)ですね。

なぜ県や府があるのでしょうか？
