Wow~~~I am so happy that I will be able to study at the WMG College of Warwick University in the UK in May this year.!! But I don’t know much about the lifestyle there, so I’m worried~~ any friends in Coventry that we can play together~

Congrats! One note: instead of “play together,” I (USA) would say “hang out” or “meet up.” Good luck!

Hi Gwen I'm not really able to say anything specific about where you're going, but the whole of the UK is very multi cultural so you'll meet lots of people from all over the world, and probably lots of Chinese students (because many universities in the UK have lots of Chinese students). Basically, people are people (wherever they come from) and so you'll meet some nice ones that might become friends and some who you won't like. Also I think many of the other students will be feeling just like you are: it's natural to be a bit nervous. But the vast majority of students have a great experience, and even a negative experience is something that we can learn from. Personally I think Italki is good in many ways, but I think you should be a bit careful about using it to make friends that you might actually meet in the real world... it's not really designed for that. And I think there's a risk that some people might see a young woman traveling to another country as potentially someone they can exploit. I think you'd be much better off contacting your university and asking them if they have any forums where new students can meet each other...or maybe where you can talk to existing students to find out more about the area etc

You'll hate the food. But try it. You'll hate the landlords. So watch it. You'll probably hang with Chinese people. So diversify it. You'll struggle with the materials. So ask the lectures. You'll face psychological stress. So talk with mental health professionals.

Coventry has the youngest population by average age in the UK. It is a vibrant place to go with a city centre busy with students and young people. (when compared to my age!) I last visited there about six months ago. I would agree with the comment already posted here about the risk of seeking friends on italki. When new to town, students hang around together in groups until they find out who they wish to meet with outside of this. I think that is probably a better and safer way to find new friends. I wouldn't worry about the new lifestyle. If you are coming from HK, then you are probably used to a faster paced lifestyle, probably with higher standards and expectations. More like someone coming from London.
