Defining words in my terms with a personal touch often reinforces the concept. For example, I associate the word "word" with the following. Do you have other words worth redefining in your own words? How about "humanity"?

A fragment of thoughts, ideas encapsulated, a shadow of yearning, an inkling of indefatigable memory from the remote past, trinkets decorating the palace, a spark lighting up the Possibility, etc.

I like your "definition" of "word" but it lacks the one characteristic that is most essential: its immutability. It can literally be carved in stone. The characteristics you list are the word's dynamic qualities. They're ever in flux, dancing around the immutable word object itself. They lay claim to the word but are not the word.
