trip = a single travel event
travel = the entire concept of travel, the idea of travel
So you could say "My travels consisted of many trips.

The primary use of travel is as a verb, but it can also be a noun used to mean the concept of visiting places. It's usually (but not always) an uncountable noun. The primary meaning of trip is a particular journey or instance of travel. It's always countable. Trip can also be a verb, but its meaning as a verb isn't related to the concept of travel.
