Hi everyone, I currently want to read some books written in English. I am curious what fiction or non-fictional books are the most popular or interesting to read in English-speaking countries. Could anyone give some book recommendations or share some of your reading experience?

Hi Sija! In order to recommend some books for you, I would have to know more about your English level and interests. If you are fairly fluent (and not still a beginner or intermediate level student for whom I would recommend Penguin graded readers), then I would say start with some modern classics like The Giver, The Great Gatsby, Fahrenheit 451 (or anything by Ray Bradbury, great science fiction!), Hatchet (Gary Paulson), The Westing Game, Of Mice and Men, etc. If you feel very confident with your vocabulary and want a little challenge, try something like Frankenstein (Mary Shelly), To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee), A Christmas Carol (Dickens), The Time Machine (H.G. Wells), or American short stories by Kate Chopin, Edgar Poe, Henry James, Stephen Crane, Ambrose Bierce, etc. I have a book club course in which we read books together and discuss them. I supply worksheets with vocabulary and discussion questions, and we meet weekly to discuss the reading. If you are interested, let me know!

Hi Sijia, The Harry Potter book series is very popular for native and non-native English learners. The books are interesting and enjoyable! I hope that you find time to read them. If you would like, I have lessons available for us to read the Harry Potter books together.
