You said it, it is so confusing at this point to start learning a specific dialect. Modern Standard Arabic is widely spoken and understood by all Arabs, yes it is mainly used in written communication but also when speaking in formal settings as speechs, meetings, classrooms and news .. From my point of view, I see that it is necessary to feel confortable with MSA first in terms of pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. Then you can start listening and lerning a specific dialect . Starting with Egyptian or Morrocan now would ruin the Arabic you have. Sentence structures and vocabulary are two main points that differ a lot from the real standard Arabic. So, it is a great idea to focus on a dialect as needed but wait for the perfect time for it.

Always glad to see that people are interested in Moroccan dialect ! What has been previously mentioned is true, starting dialects might be confusing to you, but still I believe you can try and decide by yourself. Learning a language is kind of a personal adventure, people learn things in a different way and each one has his own abilities. I think that might look as learning two languages simultaneously, I was able to do it before, and many people do it. For some reasons I stopped but still I believe it’s possible. So the best thing here is to take into consideration people advice, but try by yourself and decide. As for moroccan dialect, knowing arabic will help you a lot, but there are still words that are not from arabic ( amazigh, french, spanish,… ) , the grammar also differs to a considerable point from arabic. For such reason I prefer to call it Moroccan darija than moroccan arabic. When you work on this you realize that Moroccan is completely different and that might help you not getting confused. Continue with MSA for now until you reach at least B2 (not necessarily B2, but rather a level where you feel confident reading, writing and hearing the language). Then you can start with the dialect you want. There is a lot of overlap between MSA and, generally speaking, the dialects. The transition should then be smooth and less confusing.

You can learn (MSA) and listen to any dialect you like as a start but focus more on Fusha
