1. He watched them fly, their color a bright slash in solid green, and in this way he found the berries What does slash mean here? 2. His whole abdomen was torn with great rolling jolts of pain, pain that doubled him in the darkness of the little shelter, put him over and face down in the sand to moan again and again: "Mother, mother, mother..." What do "rolling", "jolts", "double" mean here? 3. It was as if all the berries, all the pits had exploded in the center of him, ripped arid tore at him. What does "rip arid tore at" mean here?

2. Rolling means over and over, sort of, in this context. Jolts is like, picture of you accidentally zapped yourself with an electrical outlet, except in this case, it’s just a jolt. It’s hard to explain! It’s a visceral feeling. Like “oof! I just felt a jolt of electricity go through my body!”

Ripped arid tore at him, here means, ripping him dry. Or it means bleeding him dry.

2. And “double” in this instance is like “doubling over.” It’s a very odd expression now that I think about it, but it basically means bowing down due to pain, so picture a person standing, and suddenly they just bend over, still standing, and look like they are in immense pain. That’s doubling over.
