I was watching FPTV at my grandmas and “Alô Portugal” came up, so I am a bit confused, what’s the difference between alô and olá?

We say “alô” when we make a call 📞 or when we receive a call. Eventually you’re gonna hear us saying “alô alô pessoal” meaning “hi guys!”. But 97% of time we say “olá pessoal” when we want to say “hi guys”. Got it ? Hope so ☺️

Além de usar alô em chamadas você pode usar como forma de pedir a atenção de alguém. só que mais prolongado alôoo, como se fosse "então eu estou aqui". Mas você pode ser interpretado como uma pessoa rude. "Oi" é um cumprimento que você usará em conversas normais.
