Hi there, could you take a look at my passive voice sentences? My father planted this tree a year ago. This tree was planted by my father a year ago. This tree was planted a year ago by my father. I've heard people using the "agent of the action" at the end of the sentence, and some using it after the verb immediately. Please, tell me what's the right choice in terms of academic English and grammar.

Although I can't tell you about the academic applications, I can say that to me they are both quite natural. Whether I chose one or the other would depend on what I'm emphasizing when I say it. If I'm emphasizing father I would say it first and vice versa. Again, not an academic English viewpoint, per see. Hopefully, someone else can provide that. ;)

I agree completely with Niquey. Either is correct but change of position changes the emphasis. (However, I'd still use active voice here.)
