How to Say I Am Vegan/Gluten Free in Chinese?

Hello!

I am just starting to learn Chinese, and I just learned how to say what I eat and do not eat. I am planning to travel to China in a few months, and I have a specific diet. Is there a shorter or easier way that I can say I don't eat meat/dairy/eggs, or that I need gluten free options? I know this can be a real pain, I just want to make sure when I order that I am doing it in the best, most polite and correct way. Please if you have any tips let me know. Thanks!

I am a vegan. 我吃全素。( I don't eat meat, dairy, and eggs.)

I need a gluten-free meal. 請提供無麩質的食品。or 餐點內請不要含麵筋類的製品。

If you just say 我吃素 or 我不吃肉, most people won't know you are a vegan, not a vegetarian(蛋奶素).

As to being gluten-free, I think there are barely people knowing about that, so just be careful and patient to explain more on behalf of yourself.

In Taiwan, if I go to a vegetarian restaurant, the waiter or waitress will comfirm that I am a vegetarian or vegan, and furthur ask if there is anything I can't eat. But if I just go to a vegetarian cafeteria, I have to choose the foods that I can eat by myself unless I actively ask the owners or employees.

That's useful thanks, both the question and the answers. I'm also a celiac. In my beginner's Chinese I say 我不能吃面粉 and people seem to get the idea. Did you know that there are international cards for celiacs printed in different languages? If you search on the web for 'gluten free travel card chinese' you will find them.

Hi, Dusty!   I think you are a vegetarin.   Ok, two sentences for you.

1) 我吃素。You can remember this sentence as "I eat vegetable"

 2)   I(我) don't(不) eat(吃) meat(肉).  我不吃肉

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Best wishes! O(∩_∩)O~
