A Global Community

As the world becomes more and more connected through technology, more of our culture is revealed and, in some cases, forced to adapt. In more urban areas, globalization seems inevitable. In more rural places, however, it can sometimes be seen as a threat to tradition.

We are all the same animal that wants to be happy and take care of our family. Culture gives us a social blueprint (when to get married; what to do on the weekend; how to treat your parents, etc.), but sometimes when we encounter a new culture we begin to see how our way of doing something is not the only way --- and maybe not even the best way.

I can understand the fear of losing one's cultural identity and wanting to keep traditions alive, but I also understand the value of interacting with a growing diversity of people from around the world.

QUESTION: How do we balance the two?
