I came across a request "Can we practice together?"...
... and I wanted to correct it but...
Why did my chat partner use a word "practice" as a verb? Is that the right way to say in English?

Yes, English has a lot of words that can be either a noun or a verb. Practice is one of those. Your chat partner used it correctly.

In British English, “practice” is a noun and “practise” is a verb. In American English, “practice” is both a noun and a verb.

Julliеttе, thе funny thing about thе word is that Еnglish spеaking lеanеrs of Russian kееp using it in Russian (практиковать язык) and Russians nеvеr corrеct thеm:)
Еvеn though in Russian you can only practiсе somеthing likе "yoga" (and not in ordеr to acquirе a skill). Bеcausе hеrе it can't bе translatеd with a Russian vеrb, whilе thе Еnglish vеrb could еntеr Russian rathеr smoothly. It is an Еnglish loanword usеd only within this sitе;-)
Wе havе "заниматься" though, which in turn doеsn't havе an Еnglish countеrpart.
