WOW... a new record... Seeking Language Partners 15 ... Discussions 5

Is there anything italki could do to help those seeking a language partner?

Is there any financial incentive for italki to set up a better system for helping (non-paying) language partners?

Why don't italki members use the "Language Partners" link under "COMMUNITY"?

The phone app has a completely obscure way to "add" a language parter under "contacts," so of course, all the phone app newbies just post a random "do u wanna chat?" message on the discussion board.

As a cynical view, italki might want members to fail to find conversation partners.  Out of frustration, a certain percentage will pay for lessons and italki will get a commission.

I am about to give up browsing the discussions.  There's no point.

Chris already stated a valid point: in the mobile app it's difficult to find the language partner section. And now that the forum is loaded with language partner requests, that's the first thing newbies see. Thus I can't blame them for thinking that that's how the forum works. What I find most annoying are the "I'm new. I don't know how this apo works." discussions. Why can't new users just take some minutes and browse and explore this site? No they want everything presented without having to do any work themselves: Tell me how this app works. Teach me for free. Magically make me fluent.

Chris

You make a valid case when you say that italki may wish to have language partners fail in their search for a partner.
After all, italki is a business and offering free services is nothing more than a financial drain on the business, so why would they invest more time, effort, personnel and costs to improve a service that provides no return on investment (ROI).

You're absolutely right that the Discussion section offers very few interesting discussions.

Ten years ago, the Discussion section was an interesting, lively forum, but many good members have been banned or simply gave up on the Discussion/Language Exchange section.

Unfortunate...

Richard, it might be some kind of a language challenge that we are unaware of: "How many different ways of expressing you're looking for a language partner can italki members think of".

It is fault of Italki. some people were so active in discussion part and open interesting discussions but italki blocked them.
