Could everyone let me know the meaning of this sentence?
<em>"He wanted to take two weeks' holiday, but had to </em><em style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 0);">content himself with one</em><em> because the office was so busy."</em>

I'm confused the meaning of this sentence. Did he end up with a holiday or still has to work?

Thank you all.

He had to 'content' himself here means he had to accept the fact/satisfy himself with only a one week holiday

He was only allowed one week of holiday instead of two. He had to “content” himself with just one week. It could also read “had to settle for one week”.

Like posted by others here, that means he had to be content, or satisfied, with just the one and not the two.
