Try to do flashcards.
I like to write songs and look meaning by meaning, writing then after lyrics and trying to get the phrase meaning

How about starting with easy ones, and then gradually start learning difficult ones.
The easy ones that I would recommend are 一, 二, 三. 川, 大、小、山, 口, 中and 正 are relatively easy too.
一(いち)one
二(に)two
三(さん)three
川(かわ)river
大(だい)大きい(おおきい)big large
小(しょう)小さい(ちいさい)small
山(やま)mountain
口(くち)mouth
中(なか)inside
正しい(ただしい)right

Another way to learn Kanji would be to create your own Japanese name in Kanji, and ask your friends to call you by the name. Some examples of your name would be 亜李,亜理, 亜利, 亜梨,有里, and so on. If you go by the Japanese name in Kanji, then it would be easy for you to memorize the Kanji used for your name.

Hi Aly! I know learning kanji is very time consuming, but one good way is to learn a kanji, then learn vocabulary that uses that kanji so that next you will encounter a different kanji in that vocabulary. And then you learn another vocabulary using that kanji and find another new kanji and repeat...
Another way to learn is to learn kanjis with same kanji parts such as さんずい(sanzui 「氵」). For example, 「海」(umi=Ocean), 「湖」(mizuumi=Lake), 「河」(kawa= River). These three kanji all share the same part which implies the meaning of water.

I could definitely help you with you kanji study so feel free to message me for a trial class!

Hope this was helpful!!:)
