l maybe mistaken....
You cannot facilitate a pain but you can ease or alleviate it.
You can facilitate (but not ease or alleviate) a conference room in order to make the meeting as efficient as it can be by placing the right equipments or positioning the table and chairs at right places.

You are right I looked up Macmillan dictionary and ease and alliviate can be used to make less painful, but not faciliate.
