My favorite Spanish teacher here is Antonio Naharror. He's just a super cool guy. I learned the hard way that even during a lesson someone's character and personality are important to consider. Antonio is top notch on those counts. He's super smart, kind and patient. It doesn't hurt either that he's been teaching a long time and really knows what he's talking about and how to explain things well.

Also, the person had to have a video with good quality of lighting, sound etc. for me even to consider them because not having that can really interfere with a lesson. Then of course there is the Spanish itself. It's amazing to me that so many teachers don't have themselves speaking Spanish in their videos. I by-passed even trying out those teachers entirely. 

In short... I look to find someone I actually WANT to be able to talk to as the number one criteria! That's my general game plan at italki for both teachers and for language exchange partners. I want all really great associations with the language. 

For me, finding a tutor involves a lot of trial and error. It mostly depends on my particular needs in the language learning process. When I first started Spanish, I searched for tutors that also spoke English fairly well. Now I just try to select tutors from different countries, so I can get familiar with different accents. 

My favorite tutors are good at keeping the conversation going, especially when I lose my train of thought. All of the tutors I've had were extremely supportive and good in their own way. You just have to find the one that works best for you.

My first Spanish class is FREE!

I have a Spanish teacher and have had many, many lessons with her.  When I was looking for a teacher I was looking for someone with a plan to get me from where I was to where I wanted to go.  I'm looking for lesson plans that show some progression, corrections of homework & flexibility in classes.  When I have a class I receive a lesson by email prior to the class so I know what will be discussed.  But if I have questions from things that have come up since the last class, or questions about homework/corrections we will often spend much of the class going over that material and the planned class will be pushed to the next day.  I also look for someone who is willing/able to speak English if necessary but I prefer the entire class to be in Spanish.  The best teachers will be able to explain something you don't understand using different words rather than resorting to English.

I have done many lessons with her and I feel I am doing ok!
