Women and men complain here that they’re being harassed by users from the other gender. I was just wondering what the various ideas about harassment are. What might be polite in one culture, could be perceived as obtrusive in another. For instance, one user might find it friendly to write „my dear friend“ in their first message while the other thinks that this was crossing a line. One might think that it’s a good idea to ask each other’s age to see if they’d be a good fit as language partners, while the other is offended. One might try to start small talk by asking about marital status and number of kids and the other sees this kind of questions as too intimate and asking them as breaking a taboo. One might regard it as a good idea to exchange contact details to start an audio/video exchange as soon as possible, while the other find this behaviour suspicious.
So, my question is: What is in your opinion ok to ask when approaching another user here? What behaviour and what questions do you see as harassment?
