IELTS task 1: life cycle of slamon
The diagrams below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The graph provided reveals the life cycle and different stages of a large fish species called the salmon. As the picture illustrates, there are three life stages of salmons, and they live in different places during different stages.
When salmons are born, they are called 'fry'. In this stage, their body length is 3-8 cm. After 'fry' stage, salmons grow into 'smolt' stage, which is bigger, sized 12-15 cm. The final stage is 'adult salmon', growing to 70-76 cm in size.
Regarding to the life cycle of salmons, first of all, the eggs are laid down in upper river, under reed and small stones. Eggs hatch after approximately 3-6 months. Frys live in lower river where water flows fast, and they stay there for about 4 years. After 4 years, they turn into smolts, and start to move to open sea. 5 years later, they grow up as adult salmons. These grown salmons swim back from open sea to upper river to reproduce and lay eggs. This is the complete life cycle of salmons.
