Insooni, the R&B diva of Korea I'd like to introduce one of my favorite singers. She is Insooni, the R&B diva of Korea She was born in 1957 to a Korean mother and an African American father, who served in the US military in South Korea. Her father departed to US alone after the military service, and she was brought up by her mother alone. Her upbringing was fraught with difficulties from discrimination against visible miniority ; Because we, Korean, have the same nation and color, someone who has a different appearance, especially color is distinguished at a glance. Not too long ago, being different was being strange in Korea. Nowadays It can’t be said that such a thought is absolutely gone, but the Korean society is being changed to allow and receive the fact that each is different and should be respectful unless it’s disturbing or harm. Anyway at that time she must have had troubles making friends and felt lonely. To make it worse, she and her mother had suffered from the hardships of life, and she couldn’t help singing to make money. But singing songs to her was not merely meant a way to make money, but the power to overcome the difficulties. Her rich and beautiful voice mesmerized people soon. Insooni made her debut in 1978 in a group "Hee sisters". Since then she has recorded a total of 19 albums (14 regular). She is now South Korea's acclaimed R&B diva with a wide range of fans, even though over 30 years have passed since her debut. She is one of the few singers who performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and earned several top prizes at broadcasters' annual award ceremonies. Insooni reminds me of Hans Christian Andersen’s world famous fairy tale, "The ugly duckling" She was not strange, but special like a baby duck who was teased by his family and neighbors was truly a baby of a beautiful swan. I'd like to introduce one of my favorite singers (to you).

She's Insooni, Korea's Diva of R & B.

She was born in 1957 to a Korean mother and an African American father, who served in the US military in South Korea. After his military service ended, her father returned to the United States, abandoning his family, leaving Insooni's mother to raise her alone. Her upbringing was fraught with difficulties due to discrimination from the majority of Koreans who shunned anyone who did not look like they did. Not too long ago, being different was seen as a real disability Korea. Although this discrimination (and racism) still exists somewhat today, but the Korean society is beginning to accept the fact that all people are to be respected regardless of skin color.

Anyway, at that time she must have found it difficult to make friends and I'm sure she felt lonely growing up. To make it worse, she had to sing to earn money because her mother also had great financial hardships. However for Insooni, singing songs to her was not merely a means to make money, but it also taught her that she had the power to overcome the difficulties of life. Her rich and beautiful voice soon/quickly mesmerized everyone who heard it.

I heard that she found out her father a few years ago and forgave him, but I couldn't check out whether it is true or not. 그녀가 몇 년 전에 그녀의 아버지를 만나고 그를 용서했다고 들었습니다. 하지만 그것이 사실인지 아닌지는 확인할 수 없었습니다.
