Should We Celebrate the Western Festivals? Nowadays, western festivals become more and more popular in China, especially among college students. But whether we should celebrate these festivals has become a subject of heated discussion. Some believe it’s improper for the western festivals to be celebrated in China because celebrating Western festivals is a good opportunity for the Chinese to know more about other cultures. On the other hand, more and more Chinese people believe that the Western festivals threaten a kind of cultural aggression. Now more and more young people have lost their interest in our traditional Chinese festivals like Mid-autumn Festival, Dragon-boat Festival, Tomb-sweeping Day, and Double Ninth Festival and so on. In my opinion, things always have two sides. As college students, we should preserve the traditional Chinese culture as well as stay open to Western ones. When we are learning the western knowledge, receiving the foreign information, we should know more about our traditional festivals, respect them and cherish them.

As a western person I think that there's a process of globalization of culture. Both sides of our globe are absorbing the culture of each side. China culture is present in my life everyday. I know and believe in the chinese zodiac, I love chinese food, there is even a chinese lamp in my room. I'm brazilian and here in Brazil we don't celebrate the Halloween, but in some schools there are allusive parties. I see this all thing as a harmless habit. And with the globalization is impossible to avoid this mix of cultures and traditions, you just have to remember your identity. That's what matters. Sharing culture and keeping identity alive.
