Anne of Green Gables
NHK(Japan Broadcasting Corporation) has been broadcasting the drama of the life of Hanako Muraoka, who first translated "Anne of Green Gables" into Japanese. She worked on the books during World War II when people were strongly prohibited from using English.
Speaking of "Anne of Green Gables", I have actually never read the books. I only watched the TV animation in my childhood. The same is true of "Heidi, Girl of the Alps" and "A Dog of Flanders".
I suppose that many Japanese became acquainted with those stories from TV animation, but few have read the books.
