Should A Company Support Arts Or Protect The Environment?

A company is going to give some money either to support the arts or to protect the environment. Which do you think the company should choose?

It is my opinion that the company should give money to protect the environment. Supporting arts is also an altruistic action, but I think that protecting the environment must be a priority, especially for companies. It is necessary to take into account the fact that most companies contribute to increase the effects of global warming with their carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, companies spend a large amount of resources such as water and electricity, which has a big impact on the environment.

The company can donate money to support causes such as the reforestation of an area, the building of a material recycling facility, or the research on renewable energies. In my opinion, any of these options would have a greater impact on the standard of living of many more people than what supporting a cause related to arts could have.

I would advise the manager of this company to do some research about the environmental concerns that affect the community where the company’s plant and the headquarters are located. Then, the manager or the employee in charge of the project will have various options to sponsor. In my opinion, the option that should be chosen is the one that can have the biggest impact on the most people.

I am not stating that supporting a project related to arts has no any impact on people, but I think that the environmental issues must be a priority for every company. As companies contribute to increase the effects of climate change, they should do their best to make up for the effects that their activities have on the environment and the communities where their companies are settled.
